Experience
David Gilat is a Senior Partner in the Reinhold Cohn Group with extensive professional experience in the various fields of intellectual property, in particular patents, trademarks, designs, copyright, and competition law, including litigation, transactions and general consulting on intellectual property issues.
His main fields of expertise are Technology (particularly chemistry, pharmaceutics, physics, high technology) and brands. David has been involved in landmark patent, trademark and copyright cases. He has successfully represented innovative pharmaceutical and other technological companies in various litigations and has also represented landmark trademark and copyright cases.
David is an active member of AIPPI’s Pharma Committee and has been involved in various projects thereof. David is currently teaching at the law faculty of the Reichman University as an adjunct professor, in a course on Law, Technology and Science. For almost two decades David has taught the patent law course at the law faculty of the Tel Aviv University and occasionally lectures at international conferences, Israeli academic and professional institutions and other forums.
He is the author of “Experimental Use and Patents” IIC Studies (Vol 16 1995) and served as a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Laws, 1992-3.
Throughout the years, David has authored various chapters on Israel in leading publications. Among the chapters on Israel he has authored are:
- The chapter on Israel in the Wolters Kluwer’s Manual for the Handling of Applications for Patents, Designs and Trade Marks Throughout the World (the “Brown Book”).
- The chapter on Israel in “Antibody Patenting: A Practitioner’s Guide to Drafting, Prosecution and Enforcement” (Wolters Kluwer, 2023).
- The chapter on Israel in “Pharmaceutical Test Data Exclusivity” (Wolters Kluwer, 2022)
- The chapter on Israel in “Privilege and Professional Confidences” (AIPLA – Bloomberg, 2020).
- The chapter on Israel in “The Patent Litigation Global Guide” (Thomson Reuters, 2020).
- The chapter on Israel in INTA’s online Trademark Cancellations Guide: Practice and Procedure Worldwide (International Trademark Association).
- The chapter on Israel in “Design Rights: Functionality and Scope of Protection” (Wolters Kluwer, 2018, 2022).
- The chapter on Israel in “Designs: A global guide” (WTR, 2019).
- David is also a co-author of the book “Intellectual property Law in Israel”. The book derives from the chapter on Intellectual Property law in Israel in the Encyclopaedia of Laws (IEL) published by “Kluwer Law International”.
For many years David has served as the Israel reporter of the World Trademark Review, since its start.
